Kimberly Jackson (Owner/Chef) is originally from New Orleans, where she attended college as a Speech Communication and Theatre Arts major. She later returned to school for Elementary and, eventually, Middle Education, working as a teacher, Principal, and School Turnaround Specialist before finding her way to the culinary arts.
After an injury sustained while working as Assistant Principal in DC, Kimberly found solace and a stress-reliever in cooking. During this time, because she was often bedridden, she taught her son to cook through text message, resulting in her favorite food experience in which he made her the “best steak I have ever had to this day.” Eventually, her hobby of cooking became a “lifeline that helped bring [Kimberly] emotionally back to life.”
Though Kimberly worked in the food industry during high school and college, she received no formal training, and loves creating and experimenting with unique flavors. Kimberly finds her inspiration to think outside the box in everything from the challenge of working with a small budget and building dishes from on-sale items at the grocery store, to fragrant spices, and extensive encouragement from her family.
Kimberly loves the people of York, and is excited to bring dishes like fried mac & cheese and bacon mayo, and pairings like raspberries with chipotle, to the Taste Test crowd. It is her dream to build a Southern Slider Bar empire, including school lunch, as well as educational and therapeutic, programs.
